Consolidated Edison Co. of New York Inc. said Monday it awarded a ten-year contract to buy 500 MW of electricity from a new power plant to be built in the borough of Queens by Astoria Energy LLC.

Consolidated Edison Co. of New York Inc. (Con Edison) announced Tuesday that it has issued a Request For Proposal (RFP) seeking a contract to purchase 500 megawatts of electric capacity from a new facility located in New York City or a facility outside of New York City that has new transmission dedicated to the city.

Consolidated Edison, Inc. reported net income for common stock for the first quarter of 2002 of $166.6 million or $.78 a share, compared with earnings of $179.1 million or $.84 a share for the first quarter of 2001.

New York's Consolidated Edison Inc. Thursday estimated its emergency response to the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center will cost $400 million. Con Edison said its insurers will cover an estimated $65 million of the costs. The company is seeking federal government reimbursement of the remaining costs.

ENSR International provided comprehensive environmental permitting services to add 360 MW of generating capacity to Consolidated Edison Company of New York Inc.'s (Con Edison) existing East River Generating Station in Manhattan.
