Sue Briggum

Vice President of State and Federal Public Policy

Sue Briggum heads Waste Management’s Public Policy group, manages the company’s sustainability reporting, and manages the company’s advocacy on federal regulatory issues.  

Ms. Briggum has served on U.S. Environmental Protection Agency advisory committees on numerous topics, and co-chaired both terms of the National Environmental Policy Commission, convened by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.  She currently serves as a member of the U.S. EPA’s Science Advisory Board Environmental Justice Screening Methodologies Technical Panel and as a Commissioner on the State of Maryland Climate Change Commission.  Before joining Waste Management in 1997, she was an attorney with the environmental practice group at Piper & Marbury and its predecessor, Wald, Harkrader & Ross, with the USWAG and individual utilities among her clients.

She received her B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh, her Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her J.D. from Harvard University.
