Silicon Valley Power has granted sPower a 25-year power purchase agreement for a planned 49.5-MW wind facility near Santa Clara.
The future Sand Hill Wind facility will be constructed within the Altamont Pass Wind Resource Area, and consist of 25 turbines. The company expects commercial operations will begin before the end of 2020.
“sPower is excited about developing its first wind farm in California, especially given SVP’s initiatives to create a cleaner energy future for the City of Santa Clara’s residents and businesses,” said Ryan Creamer, sPower CEO.
Creamer said the Salt Lake City-based company hopes to build more California wind developments in the future.
sPower now owns and operates over 150 electrical generation systems in the US and UK that will total 1.3 GW by 2017.
