Large solar energy project planned for Chile

Spanish energy company Ibereolica plans to build a $2.6 billion, 360 MW solar energy park in Chile and submitted it to the environmental authorities for approval.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Ibereolica said it plans to build the project in the Tocopilla municipality in the middle of the Atacama desert in northern Chile.

The project will supply energy to the northern SING grid, which feeds most of Chile’s energy intensive copper industry.
