Illinois county rejects wind farm legislation

Ford County, Ill.’s Board, in a unanimous vote, opposed a wind farm legislation that would give control of siting, construction and decommissioning to the state’s agriculture department.

The board said they rejected Senate Bill 3263, the Wind Energy Facility Construction and Deconstruction Act, because the bill would transfer each county’s regulatory authority over wind farms to the state.

On Monday, the board agreed that Chairman Rick Bowen would draft a letter to all members of the state Senate’s energy committee on why the county opposes the bill, the Paxton Record reported.

During the meeting, Bowen added that the county has the same provisions in place that the bill calls for and several more that are not included in the bill.
