Iberdrola began construction of the 66-MW Pier II wind farm in southern Mexico.
The $120 million wind farm will use 33 Gamesa G97 2 MW wind turbines. The project is one of the first to be designed by Iberdrola using supercomputing, specifically a system called SEDAR (High Resolution Wind Power Simulation) developed along with Barcelona Supercomputing Centre. The system performs analysis of the best potential wind turbine locations for producing energy.
Iberdrola and project partner ILER signed an agreement to build up to 366 MW of wind projects in the following years.
