Worker strike cuts nuclear power capacity in France by 7 GW

EDF says its French nuclear supply was cut by 7 GW Thursday when workers at several nuclear plants went on strike.

EDF workers started a 24-hour strike against wage and working conditions, Reuters said. The strike reduced capacity at 17 of France’s 19 reactors by 4,000 MW by midday, and up to 7,000 MW by the end of the day. The unions called for another 24-hour strike at EDF’s thermal, nuclear and hydro power plants in November 4.
