Remote condition monitoring has saved more than $650,000 in downtime, personnel time and materials during the first 18 months of operation for Lone Star Energy Corp.`s Encogen Four power plant in Buffalo, N.Y. Cost to the plant for hardware, fees and training associated with the monitoring system was $35,000.

Riley Stoker recently completed the startup of its first cell-fired low-NOx burner system at American Electric Power`s (AEP) Muskingum River Station Unit 5. A 600-MW Babcock & Wilcox boiler was retrofitted with 50 Riley Controlled Combustion Venturi (CCV) burners. This unit, constructed in the 1950s, fires eastern bituminous coal using the cell burner configuration.
