Uprate project approved at Fermi nuclear power unit

Nuclear Energy Institute Americans show strong support poll

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved a request by DTE Energy (NYSE: DTE) to perform an uprate project at Unit 2 of the Fermi nuclear power plant in Michigan.

The NRC staff said DTE could increase the generating capacity of the unit by more accurate means of measuring feedwater flow. The project is expected to increase the unit’s generating capacity from 1,179 MW to 1,198 MW.

DTE said it will implement the uprate during a current refueling outage.
