Japan’s NRA approves two nuclear reactors for restart

Japan’s nuclear regulator approved the restart of two more nuclear reactors.

The Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) gave Kansai Electric Power the OK to restart units 3 and 4 at the Takahama nuclear power station, according to power-technology.com. Kansai must still obtain approvals for design upgrades and undergo operational checks, in addition to getting local authority approval before the units can restart.

All 48 reactors remain offline since 2012 after the 2011 Fukushima accident. Kyushu Electric’s Sendai nuclear units were the first to receive regulatory approvals to restart in 2014, but they may not be operational until mid-2015.
