Point Lepreau nuclear power plant shuts down

A problem with a turbine system pump has led to the shutdown of the 660-MW Point Lepreau Generation Station in New Brunswick, Canada.

The issue happened on the non-nuclear side of the plant and all safety systems functioned as expected. Repairs are underway and the plant is expected back online by the end of this week.

NB Power said in a release it will turn to the Northeastern energy market and the Coleson Cove Generating Station to supply any necessary additional power until the nuclear plant is back online.
