Nuclear firm BWXT hires McCabe to head Counsel, Compliance

Historic U.S. nuclear fuel provider BWXT Technologies Inc. has hired Thomas E. McCabe as its new general counsel, chief compliance officer and corporate secretary effective immediately.

McCabe joins Lynchburg, Va.-based BWXT from Orbital ATK Inc., a defense, space and aviation firm where he served as executive vice president and chief compliance officer. He also worked at Alion Science and Technology Corp., Braintech and XM Satellite Radio, among others.

He holds bachelor’s and juris doctor degrees from Georgetown University and Notre Dame, respectively.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Tom to BWXT,” Rex D. Geveden, president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. “He brings the right mix of experience with both the private and public sectors that will help the company continue to grow its traditional businesses and branch out into new areas where our core competencies are a strategic fit for the market.”

BWXT supplies nuclear components and fuel to the U.S. government and to the commercial nuclear power industry. The company traces its history back to the 1850s and operated many years as part of the Babcock and Wilcox Co.

BWXT manufactured components for the USS Nautilus—the nation’s first nuclear-powered submarine—and for the Shippingport Atomic Power Station in Pennsylvania, the first peacetime full-scale nuclear power plant in the U.S., according to the company website.
