31 March 2005 – Ringhals nuclear power station in Sweden is to have its capacity increased after Alstom was awarded a contract to provide steam turbine and generator equipment.
Under the €190m ($245m) contract with Ringhals AB, owned by the Swedish companies Vattenfall and Sydkraft, Alstom will supply new internal retrofit parts for four turbine generator sets at units 3 and 4 of the four unit plant. Each set will contain one generator, one high pressure steam turbine and three low pressure steam turbines.
After the work has been completed the power output will increase from 920 MW to more than 1100 MW on unit 3 and approximately 1150 MW on unit 4. The installation work on unit 3 will take place in 2006 and 2007, and in 2008 and 2011 on unit 4.
