Rolls-Royce to provide further power for African fuel production

27 September 2005 – Rolls-Royce is to supply six RB211 industrial gas turbines to operate in the Akpo oil and gas field, offshore Nigeria, after it was awarded an $82m contract from Technip on behalf of Total Upstream Nigeria Ltd.

Total has now ordered 11 RB211 gas turbines for its operations offshore Nigeria.

The six new gas turbine generator sets will provide 100 MW of electrical power needed to develop 22 oil and gas production wells, 20 water injection wells and two gas injection wells in the field.

Rolls-Royce said that over the past five years, offshore West Africa oilfield operators have placed orders for 26 RB211 turbine and compression packages.

Tom Curley, president of the Rolls-Royce energy business, said: “Oil and gas fields offshore West Africa represent one of the leading growth regions for Rolls-Royce industrial gas turbines.”
