21 September 2010– Black Dog coal-fired power plant in Burnsville, Minn. was shut down after a September 21 explosion, according to television station WCCO. Three firefighters were injured in the explosion, but none seriously.

Xcel Energy, the plant’s owner, said it appeared material began smoldering in a coal storage bin but did not ignite until after fire crews arrived.

Xcel said they are routing power from other sources. The plant is shut down while crews investigated the cause.
