B.L. England Coal Plant’s Service Extended for Two Years

By Editors of Power Engineering

The 450-MW coal-fired B.L. England Generating Station in New Jersey, also known as the Beesley’s Point Generating Station, will remain in service for at least another two years.

PJM Interconnection directed RC Cape May Holdings LLC, the owners of B.L. England, to keep the plant open to maintain the reliability of the grid while transmission upgrades are underway, the NJ Spotlight reported. That work is now expected to be completed in 2019.

RC Cape and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection had originally reached an administrative consent order in 2014 to close the plant in 2015, though that was extended to May 2017.
