Southern Company announces new executive management

Thomas A. Fanning, Southern Company’s (NYSE: SO) Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer has named Bryan D. Anderson, current vice president of Governmental Affairs, has been promoted to senior vice president of Governmental Affairs, effective immediately. Anderson will oversee the company’s political, policy and regulatory activities.

Anderson joined Southern Company in 2010. Prior to that, he served as The Coca-Cola Company’s Vice President of Government Relations and Public Affairs.

Fanning also announced the promotion of Christina H. Ihrig, current director of Corporate Communication for subsidiary Mississippi Power, has been named vice president of Corporate Communication for Southern Company, effective Jan. 1. Ihrig will manage all external and internal communication strategies for Southern Company.

Ihrig joined Southern Company in 1998 and has held leadership roles at Southern Company and its subsidiaries in media relations, executive and investor communications, external affairs and issues management. Ihrig previously worked in communication roles for Sempra Energy and its regulated utilities.
