Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems will refurbish a waste heat recovery boiler at a cogeneration plant in the Philippines, the company announced this week.
MHPS received the order for the boiler in operation at the Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining Corporation (PASAR) plant, located on Leyte Island. The deal calls for a total renewal of the pressure-resistant components of the boiler, which was manufactured by another company and has been in operation since 1993.
PASAR performs copper smelting and refining, one of the Philippines’ key industries. The company is an affiliate of Swiss-based Glencore International AG, a multi-national mine development and metals trading firm.
MHPS has worked in the Filipino market for many years. As power demand has grown nationwide, so has the market for equipment renewal, greater production capacity and plant servicing.
In light of that market growth, MHPS established a new entity called MHPS-PSC to expand plant servicing operations in the Philippines. MHPS-PSC is also aiming to boost its share within the broad southeast Asian market by leveraging the synergy generated through coordination with MHPS-PHL, which is a boiler manufacturing subsidiary based in the nation.
