Siemens will build a new combined cycle power plant as a turnkey project in Landivisiau in western France.
The company will also operate and maintain the 446-MW plant for a period of 20 years. The project cost is approximately €450 million or $496 million U.S. Siemens Financial Services (SFS), the financing arm of Siemens, held an equity stake in the project, ensuring stability during the entire development phase.
The order for the new power plant was placed by the special-purpose company Compagnie Electrique de Bretagne, which is now fully owned by the French gas and energy provider Total Direct Énergie (TDE), a subsidiary of Total S.A.SFS held a 40 percent share in the special-purpose company during the seven-year project development phase. When the agreement went into force, SFS sold its holding to TDE as planned, because the latter wants to expand its share of the power generation market in France. The commissioning of the power plant is scheduled for the second half of 2021.
“Thanks to its flexibility, our new power plant in Landivisiau will be ideal for balancing out the fluctuating infeed from wind and solar plants,” Total Direct Énergie CEO Xavier Caïtucoli said in a statement. “It will therefore make a crucial contribution to supply security in the region. The efficient gas turbine technology from Siemens and their participation during the project development phase were important factors in successfully implementing this project.”
Siemens will supply an SGT5-4000F gas turbine, an SST5-3000 steam turbine, an SGen5-2000H generator, the heat-recovery steam generator, and the SPPA-T3000 control system. The company will also operate and maintain the plant for 20 years, including the provision of remote diagnostic services, which are part of the Omnivise Digital Service portfolio.
