Ameresco almost finished with O&M, energy upgrade work at island university

Ameresco is nearing completion on an energy plant upgrade and efficiency project at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

The project includes central plant optimization, chiller replacement, demand response, building automation and controllers. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi incurred no upfront cost, but will pay it back through the estimated $7 million in operational and energy cost savings accrued over the contract term.

“We are laser-focused on ensuring we use university funds wisely, and these initiatives will greatly reduce our energy costs while also allowing us to replace capital budget items without having to incur capital costs,” said John Dawson, Ph.D., Associate Vice President for Operations at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. “Ameresco is helping us to pursue much-needed system upgrades in a fiscally responsible way.”

The university selected Ameresco for the project in 2016. The improvements are expected to generate close to $500,000 in annual savings at the campuses.

Ameresco, founded 19 years ago, is based in Framingham, Massachusetts. It specializes in services for energy efficiency, infrastructure upgrades and renewable energy solutions in North American and Europe, including projects at military bases and hospitals.
