PPL, SCE and Xcel top SEPA’s Power Player Award Finalists

PPL Electric Utilities, Xcel Energy, Southern California Edison, Tennessee Valley Authority, CPS Energy and Sacramento Municipal Utility District are among the finalists in the Smart Electric Power Alliance’s 2019 SEPA Power Player Awards.

Those utilities join individuals and cooperatives as finalists in seven award categories focused on innovative projects and unique partnerships working toward the U.S. electricity grid transition, SEPA President and CEO Julia Hamm said in a statement.

Finalists will be honored July 29 during a dinner event in Washington D.C., where winners will be announced. The award ceremony is part of SEPA’s 2019 Grid Evolution Summit.

PPL, Xcel and Southern California Edison are the three finalists in the investor owned utility division. Each utility is being considered for making major moves in greenhouse gas reduction and/or distributed energy projects.

CPS, TVA and SMUD are the finalists in the public power category, while Kat Carson Electric Cooperative (New Mexico), Kaua’i Island Electric Cooperative (Hawaii) and Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative are being honored in that category.

SEPA’s Power Player of the Year awards an individuals in the energy industry who show leadership and act in advancing clean energy, DER and grid modernization. Those finalists are Sue Kelly, CEO of American Public Power Association; the late Ron Nichols, president of Southern California Edison; and Bryan Garcia, president and CEO of Connecticut Green Bank.
