Dominion seeks Statewide input on Renewable Energy plans

Dominion Energy is asking for input from commercial, industrial and government customers in Virginia as it embarks on its ambitious grid transformation and renewable energy plan statewide, the utility announced Wednesday.

The Richmond, Virginia-based Dominion is issuing a “request for information” survey seeking feedback from the non-residential customers. In July, the utility announced a plan it was seeking 3,000 MW of new wind and solar energy either in operation or under development by 2022.

“As many businesses and organizations in Virginia establish or expand clean energy and sustainability goals, Dominion Energy is proud to be a trusted energy partner,” Corynne Arnett, vice president-Customer Service, said in a statement. “We welcome the opportunity to learn more about the renewable energy targets and goals of business and governmental customers across the state. This information will help us adapt renewable programs to meet customer needs as we grow our renewable generation fleet in Virginia, which is currently the fourth largest solar fleet in the country among utility holding companies.”

The Dominion plan is the first phase of its response to the state-mandated Grid Transformation and Security Act, which became law on July 1. Shortly thereafter, the utility sent Virginia legislators its initial proposal to add 240 MW of solar statewide, with more likely to be detailed after seeking input.

Another renewable effort planned by Dominion is the proposed Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project. The 12-MW wind farm 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach would be the first of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic, according to the utility.

Energy efficiency, smart metering and rate cuts are among the other facets of the Dominion Virginia grid transformation plan.
