SunPower Delays Factory Expansion as Result of Tariff Decision

SunPower announced it will postpone a $20 million factory expansion as a result of the Trump administration’s move to place tariffs on imported solar panels.

Company officials are asking for an exception from the 30 percent tariff, as its manufacturing locations are in the Philippines and Mexico, Newsweek reported.

SunPower CEO Tom Werner said his company would be strongly impacted by the tariffs.

“We have to stop the $20 million investment because the tariffs start before we know if we’re excluded,” he said. “It’s not hypothetical. These were positions that we were recruiting for that we are going to stop.”
