Southern Power has officially cancelled plans to build a new gas-fired plant in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.
The company has informed state and local officials, including the owners of the Berry Hill Industrial Park, the potential location of the plant, of the decision, the Register & Bee reported.
Though the capacity of the plant was not specified, Southern had secured 300 acres of land at the industrial park, and planned to spend more than $250 million.
The letter informing the owners of the industrial park indicated “current market conditions in PJM Interconnection have limited our ability to execute long-term customer opportunities that align with our business model.
