The 155-MW coal-fired Erickson Station in Delta Township, Michigan is now slated for retirement by 2025, the Lansing State Journal reported.

The Lansing Board of Water & Light made the decision as part of a settlement with the Sierra Club over allegations of environmental violations.

“The BWL’s coal plants have served our community well for many years, but by 2025 the Erickson power plant will be over 50 years old – 13 years older than its original design life, and ready for retirement,” said Stephen Serkaian, a spokesman for BWL.

BWL previously announced the 335-MW coal-fired Eckert Power Plant will shut down by 2020.
