FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company announced its Beaver Valley Power Station Unit 2 in Shippingport, Pennsylvania, has shut down for scheduled refueling and maintenance.
During the outage, more than 1,000 temporary workers and FirstEnergy employees will join the regular Beaver Valley workforce to replace 157 fuel assemblies and undertake numerous safety inspections, including inspections of the unit’s reactor vessel head, turbine and electrical generator.
Additionally, workers will undertake preventative maintenance on the plant’s three steam generators and various pumps, motors, valves and the cooling tower.
The 933-MW Beaver Valley Unit 2 generated more than 11.5 million MW/h of electricity since its last refueling.
