Capital Power Purchases Two Canadian Gas Plants

By Editors of Power Engineering

Capital Power Corp. announced it will purchase the thermal power subsidiary of Veresen Inc. for $225 million, which will give Capital Power control of one gas plant and a 50 percent interest in a second.

The 84-MW East Windsor Cogeneration Centre was purchased outright, while Capital now has a stake in the 400-MW York Energy Centre. Capital Power will now operate both.

The two facilities are under long-term power purchase agreements with the Ontario Independent Electricity System Operator.

Capital’s transaction also includes 10 MW of zero-emissions waste heat generation from two facilities at Westcoast Energy’s BC Gas Pipeline compressor stations in Savona and 150 Mile House, British Columbia. Both have purchase agreements with BC Hydro.
