Tradewind Energy is seeking to develop 340 MW of new wind facilities in Iowa.

The two facilities would be North English at 140 MW and English Farms at 200 MW, both to be located in Poweshiek County, the Des Moines Register reported.

Tradewind is currently working with Poweshiek County officials on the installation of underground transmission lines on conservation land.

As part of the project’s development, tradewind installed meteorological towers to measure wind speeds in the area.

“The wind speed readings have been coming back with great results, showing some of the best wind in the region,” said Jeff Hammond, project manager for Tradewind Energy. “Additional towers went up in April to measure wind speeds in the North English area and we are pleased to see similar results.”

Over the next 20 years, Tradewind would pay $45 million to $50 million to Poweshiek County and $55 million to $60 million to landowners.
