Xcel Energy recently marked the completion of its North Star solar energy development.
The 100-MW project, spread out over 1,000 acres in Chisago County, Minnesota, is scheduled to begin producing power in December, the Star Tribune reported.
Xcel will purchase power under a 25-year contract.
North Star is owned and managed by D.E. Shaw Renewable Investments, developed by Community Energy Solar and constructed by Swinerton Renewable Energy.
The facility will use linear tracking technology to maximize energy production.
North Star is expected to allow Xcel Energy to meet their 1.5 percent solar energy generation requirement in the State.
Xcel recently announced the closure of two coal-fired power plants in Minnesota.
