Former Massachusetts Coal Plant Site to Become a Solar Farm
By Editors of Power Engineering
Mt. Tom Solar LLC, a subsidiary of ENGIE North America, broke ground on a 5.76-MW solar farm to be built on the site of the former coal-fired Mt. Tom Power Station in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
The facility will sell electricity to Holyoke Gas & Electric starting in January.
ENGIE noted the installation will include 17,000 solar panels on 22 acres.
The former Mt. Tom Power Station was operated by an affiliate of Mt. Tom Solar, and was shut down in 2014.
