PSO Continues Wind Growth with RFP for New Sites

By Editors of Power Engineering

Public Service Co. of Oklahoma continues to be bullish on wind, as the utility has issued an RFP for up to 300 MW of additional wind power.

The RFP requires a minimum of 80 MW per site, though PSO is open to approving multiple new wind farms at multiple sites.

“Wind is now low cost, so that’s been very good for us,” said Stan Whiteford, head of corporate communications at PSO. “We add wind when it’s beneficial to our customers.”

PSO now generates 1,100 MW of electricity from wind, or 20 percent of its total power generation. Each of its wind projects, including those in the new RFP, are on 20-year contracts.
