Minnesota Wind Energy Farm Begins Commercial Operation

Vestas Contracted to Supply Turbines for Oklahoma Wind Farm

Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. (APUC) began commercial operation at a 200-MW wind energy farm in Minnesota.

The 200-MW Odell Wind Project uses 100 Vestas V110-2.0 MW wind turbine generators. The project qualified for U.S. renewable energy production tax credits and tax equity investors provided a $180 million investment toward project costs. Total capital cost of the facility was approximately $330 million.

Algonquin holds a 50 percent equity interest in the project, and the original project developer owns the other half. APUC expects to obtain the other half upon receipt of regulatory approvals, anticipated in fourth quarter 2016. All of the generated electricity is sold under a 20-year power purchase agreement with an unnamed investment-grade utility.
