The license is for the Kentucky Lock and Dam 11 Hydroelectric Project, owned and operated by the Kentucky River Authority. The project was the only one picked by FERC for its pilot program testing a new, two-year licensing process mandated by Congress in the Hydropower Regulatory Efficiency Act of 2013. The project underwent an extensive evaluation process that includes environmental and technical studies and the development of an Environmental Assessment by FERC staff.
The project is planned to have a generating capacity of 5 MW and is expected to start construction in 2017. Operations are set to begin in 2018.
