Amec Foster Wheeler Tests Technology to Clean up Radioactive Water

Amec Foster Wheeler says its technology is being used in a research and development program in Japan to make radioactive water safer.

The work, in partnership with Fuji Electric on behalf of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency, will center on the SIAL matrix, a geopolymer technique used to encapsulate various radioactive waste streams. The research will test whether SIAL can be used to solidify sludge arising from the damage at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
