Swedish Nuclear Reactor to Shut Down in 2017

A shut down date for a nuclear power unit in Sweden has been set for 2017.
OKG’s Board of Directors said Oskarshamn 1 will shut down at the end of June 2017. The unit’s closure cannot begin until the required permits have bene received from the Swedish Land and Environmental Court and the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority. OKG says low electricity prices, combined with the output tax on nuclear power, were the reasons behind the decision to shut down units 1 and 2.
The company previously said both reactors would close down between 2017 and 2019. There are no immediate plans to shut down Oskarshamn 3.
