GE Fast-Start Mobile Gas Turbines For Power Plants in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Electricity Co. (SEC) ordered six GE (NYSE: GE) trailer-mounted, fast starting TM2500+ aeroderivative mobile gas turbine packages for power plants in Saudi Arabia.

The turbines are equipped with black start capability and can serve as emergency generators in the event of a power outage by providing 30 MW of electricity each. The TM2500+ mobile packages are expected to be shipped to the power plants in February.

This order follows the 2015 commissioning of five TM2500+ units throughout Saudi Arabia. The TM2500+ mobile packages provide dual-fuel, high-efficiency power and support redeployment to isolated areas of the grid as needed.

GE plans to extend operations and maintenance support to SEC’s power plants in Saudi Arabia through an anticipated joint venture with SEC. As part of the memorandum of understanding for the joint venture, GE plans to extend its advance technologies and train SEC staff to perform the O&M services. More than 550 of GE’s gas turbines are installed at over 40 SEC sites in Saudi Arabia.
