Amec Foster Wheeler to Help Clean Up Canadian Nuclear Waste Sites

Amec Foster Wheeler said it is using radiation survey equipment to help clean up approximately historic low-level radioactive waste from various sites in southern Ontario, Canada.
Amec Foster Wheeler is using its advanced Orion ScanPlot overland radiation survey system to collect radiological data under a $1.18 million contract with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories. The contract covers approximately 1.2 million cubic meters of waste.
ScanPlot combines highly sensitive gamma radiation detectors with survey-grade GPS receivers. The data is processed by an onboard computer to produce spatial mapping used to indicate the locations of historic low-level radioactive waste.
