Siemens Chosen to Supply Turbines for 3 Italian Wind Farms Within 12 Months

Siemens will supply wind turbines for three separate new Italian projects during the 2016 calendar year.

Installations at the 60-MW Melfi, the 54-MW Tricario and the 16-MW Cerreto projects are all expected to be complete by December 2016.

Siemens will equip the plants with its SWT-3.0-113 and SWT-3.2-113 wind turbines.  The company was awarded the contracts through the Italian regulatory authority Gestore Servizi Energetici’s awarding procedure for wind farms with capacities greater than 5 MW, in which developers submit bids and the contracts are awarded to those offering the greatest possible discounts from the defined base rate of EUR 127 for each megawatt-hour of power generated.

“The order awarding process in place since 2012 has resulted in greater cost transparency for onshore wind power projects in Italy,” said Thomas Richterich, CEP of Onshore in the Siemens Wind Power and Rewnewables Division.  “We are therefore very pleased that we can highlight the efficiency of our direct-drive D3 wind turbines here and especially for three Italian projects at once within one year.”
