Siemens to Provide Long-Term Service for Wind Energy Facility in Minnesota

Siemens to supply wind turbines to Australian project

Siemens has signed a long-term agreement with Minnesota Power to provide 10 years of service and maintenance for the Bison Wind Energy Center (BWEC) near New Salem, North Dakota. The agreement includes service of 149 D3-platform wind turbines across  four phases of the facility.
BWEC has a total capacity of nearly 500 MW, making it the largest wind energy project in North Dakota. It includes 85 SWT-3.0-101 direct-drive turbines and 64 SWT-3.2-113 direct-drive turbines, which have 113-meter rotors and 92.5-meter hub heights.
With the commissioning of the most recent phase of the complex in January 2015, Minnesota Power beat by a decade the state of Minnesota’s renewable energy mandate of a 25 percent renewable portfolio by 2025.
