The 120-MW Perryman 6 natural gas-fired power unit in Maryland began commercial operation.
The addition of the peaking unit increases the Perryman Generating Station’s generating capacity to 475 MW. It was built as part of the merger agreement between Exelon (NYSE: EXC) and Constellation.
The unit uses a Pratt & Whitney Power Systems FT4000 SWIFTPAC with two simple-cycle, aero-derivative combustion turbines. The unit will mainly run on natural gas, but can use oil as a back up.
