Invenergy’s Grand Ridge Energy Storage Project enters commercial operation

Invenergy announced the start of commercial operations of its 31.5-MW Grand Ridge Energy Storage project at its Grand Ridge Energy Center, in La Salle County, Illinois. The site is comprised of a 210-MW wind farm; a 20-MW solar project; and an existing 1.5-MW energy storage unit. Additionally, Grand Ridge Energy Storage provides fast-response regulation services to the PJM market.

Currently, the company is working on the 31.5-MW Beech Ridge Energy Storage project in West Virginia. Both storage projects are utilizing BYD America’s Containerized Energy Storage System.

“We are delighted with Invenergy’s selection of BYD’s Energy Storage system, which features our proprietary lithium-ion, iron-phosphate battery chemistry,” said Stella Li, senior vice president at BYD Co.

To date, Invenergy has more than 100-MW of energy storage projects in operation, in construction, and in development in the U.S.
