Judge rejects lawsuit blocking restart of Sendai nuclear power units

A Japanese court ruled against a lawsuit aimed at blocking the reopening of two nuclear power plants in the country.

The Kagoshima District Court rejected the suit against two units at the Sendai nuclear power plant, saying that, based on current scientific knowledge, the court found nothing wrong in the regulations set by the Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) and that evacuation plans are reasonable, according to Reuters. The reactors could restart as soon as mid-July once they receive final regulatory approval.

The NRA approved the restart of the units in September. Kyushu Electric Power Co. owns and operates the plant.
