AWEA: U.S. adds 23K jobs in 2014; sets wind project construction record

The U.S. wind industry added 23,000 jobs in 2014 and set a record foramount of capacity under construction in 2015, according to a report from the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA).

AWEA’s “U.S. Wind Industry Annual Market Report” said that the U.S. wind industry employs more than 23,000 workers at more than 500 facilities in 43 states, in addition to 53,000 other jobs in project development, constriction, operations and other parts of the industry.

The year 2015 started with 12,700-MW of wind projects under construction, a record for the start of any year, the report said. The industry brought in $12 billion in private investment in 2014, for a total of more than $100 billion since 2008.

Texas tops the list of states with wind projects under construction with 7,500 MW, more than all other states combined, the report said. The wind industry invested  $3 billion in Texas and added 9,000 jobs in 2014. Rounding out the top five states wit the most wind industry jobs are Iowa and Colorado with over 6,000 jobs each, Oklahoma with nearly 5,000 jobs, and Michigan with more than 3,000 jobs.
