Wylfa nuclear power plant to restart in a week

The Wylfa nuclear power plant in the UK is expected to restart soon after being shut down since earlier in March.

The plant first shut down March 7 for a refueling outage when workers with plant operator Magnox were unable to remove a fuel element. The company started an investigation and said the plant would be shut down for four weeks.

Magnox told The Daily Post that they found nothing wrong with the reactor and performed additional maintenance during the extended outage. The plant is reportedly scheduled to return to service by April 4, almost a month after originally shutting down.

Unit 1 is the last running Magnox reactor. Wylfa 2 shut down permanently in 2013. Unit 1 was set to shut down in 2010, but is now scheduled to close in December 2015. Horizon Nuclear Power is planning to build the Wylfa Newydd power plant next to the existing site.
