Point Lepreau nuclear plant down for repair

Canada’s 600-MW Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station is offline for two weeks for repairs.

A fueling machine needs to be fixed, and other maintenance works will be carried out during the two-week shutdown, according to plant operator New Brunswick Power (NB Power). Preparation work for the outage proceeded faster than expected, which allowed the reactor to shut down 18 hours earlier for the outage. NB Power said it will use their other power generating facilities and the northeastern energy market for backup power until the plant returns to full service.

Point Lepreau underwent a major overhaul and was declared commercially operational in November 2012.
