MS Power coal-to-gas conversion nearly complete

A coal-to-gas conversion project at a power plant operated by Mississippi Power is nearly complete.
The utility, a subsidiary of Southern Co. (NYSE: SO), said it plans to complete the conversion by April 16 at Plant Watson. Mississippi Power announced in August 2014 that units 4 and 5 would switch from burning coal to natural gas in order to comply with the requirements of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Mercury and Air Toxics Standards.
The 250-MW Plant Watson 4 began operating in April 1968, and the 500-MW Unit 5 started operations a few years later.
