EDF Energy says it will miss a financing deadline for construction of a new nuclear reactor at the Hinkley Point plant in the UK.
EDF said in This is the West Country that there continues to be progress, but there won’t be a decision for a few more months. The deadline to finalize a deal with two Chinese partners was set for March, which had been pushed back from the original one for mid-2014, the article said. The utility also announced earlier this month that it may delay the project because of a 25 percent drop in profits due to tough markets and outages at the Heysham 1 and Hartlepool nuclear plants.
EDF is looking to build a ￡16 billion ($24.6 billion) reactor, Hinkley Point C. The reactor is scheduled for completion in 2023.
