Hinkley Point B nuclear reactor taken offline for scheduled maintenance

One of two nuclear reactors at Hinkley Point B in the UK was taken out of service for a £40 million ($60.1 million) maintenance outage.
Work includes inspections inside the reactors, as well as installation of new equipment, including replacing two large gas circulators that help cool the reactors and replacing turbine blades.
The maintenance periods, known as statutory outages, take place every three years. The other reactor is expected to operate normally during the shut down. An additional 1,000 workers will perform 12,000 separate pieces of work during the outage.
