Shaw Renewable acquires wind power project from Apex Clean Energy

D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments LLC (DESRI) and Apex Clean Energy (Apex) announced the sale of the 300-MW Balko Wind, a wind energy project in Beaver County, Oklahoma.

Upon completion, Balko Wind will include 162 GE (NYSE: GE) 1.85-87 wind turbines. Mortenson Construction served as the project’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor.

The DESRI-managed project has signed power purchase agreements (PPA) with the Public Service Company of Oklahoma and Western Farmers Electric Cooperative.

Financing was provided by Santander Bank, N.A., KeyBank, N.A., Citi, and Banco de Sabadell, S.A. Tax equity financing was provided by affiliates of Bank of America Merrill Lynch, General Electric Capital Corp., Google Inc., and Citi.

Balko Wind is expected to reach commercial operation in summer 2015.
