Concrete dome completed at UAE nuclear plant project

UAE produce a quarter of power from nuclear by 2021 Energy Minister

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corp. (ENEC) completed construction on the concrete dome for a nuclear reactor being built.
The dome is the final structural component of the reactor containment building for Unit 1, and the completion is a major milestone in project construction. The containment building houses the reactor and is more than 70 metres (230 feet) tall.  The next phase of work includes the installation of the containment post tensioning system, which is used for pre-stressing the concrete structure, followed by a three-month structural integrity test.
Construction on the containment building began in July 2012 with the fabrication of the basemat. The containment liner plate, which forms the inner floor, wall and ceiling of the containment building, was fabricated and installed in 19 stages over 10 months.
Unit 1 is more than 60 percent complete and on track to begin operations in 2017. Units 2-4 are expected to come online from 2018 through 2020. ENEC was approved to begin construction of units 3 and 4 earlier in 2015, and the first safety concrete pour for Unit 3 was announced in September 2014.
